An alert regarding security issued on Saturday led to the necessary evacuation of three levels within the Eiffel Tower, situated in central Paris. Serving as France’s most iconic and symbolic landmark, the tower had attracted 6.2 million visitors during the previous year.
The overseeing body of the site, known as SETE, provided information that experts specializing in bomb disposal, in addition to law enforcement personnel, were conducting a thorough search of the vicinity. Notably, this included a restaurant located on one of the tower’s levels.
A spokesperson commented, “While this type of situation is uncommon, it follows a standard protocol.”
At approximately 1:30 pm (1130 GMT), visitors were safely evacuated from the three levels of the tower as well as the square area beneath the monument.
The tower’s construction project, initiated in January 1887, culminated on March 31, 1889. It notably welcomed two million visitors during the renowned World’s Fair held in 1889.
