Sri Lanka’s former prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa addressed his first public meeting on October 8 since he was compelled to resign in May and ouster of his younger brother and former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa in July.
During addressing a public meeting organised by his party Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at Kalutara, 77-year-old Mahinda Rajapaksa got confused as who was the present president of the nation.
An aide whispered to him and corrected him as he spoke about Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the president of the nation.
Quickly correcting his mistake, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa said, “We will continue to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe to defend this government. He was our opponent, now he is with us.”
