OpenAI recently made waves with the release of ChatGPT for iOS users. Now, the company has taken its chatbot’s capabilities a step further by announcing its integration with Bing Search, allowing the chatbot to access the internet.
Currently, this new feature is exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who pay a monthly subscription fee of $20. According to the release notes, “Plus users can now use Browsing to get comprehensive answers and current insights on events and information that extend beyond the model’s original training data.”
To utilize this feature, users need to enable Browsing in the “new features” settings section. They can then select GPT-4 in the model switcher and opt for “Browse with Bing” in the drop-down menu.
With this addition, users can overcome the limitations of ChatGPT’s knowledge cutoff, which was previously addressed through plugins introduced for the browser interface.
OpenAI has also introduced improvements to the search history feature, allowing users to navigate their past conversations more seamlessly. Meanwhile, Android users eagerly await the arrival of the ChatGPT app, as OpenAI’s blog post teases, “P.S. Android users, you’re next!”
This news follows OpenAI’s recent announcement that users can create and share ChatGPT conversations using shared links. Recipients of these links can view or copy the conversation to continue the discussion. Currently in alpha testing with a small group, this feature is expected to be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
All these updates coincide with OpenAI’s plans to establish its own marketplace for AI models built on its technology. By equipping ChatGPT on iOS with internet browsing capabilities, OpenAI aims to distinguish its app within its own marketplace of AI applications.
