In a harrowing incident, Russian military forces launched a shelling attack on two villages situated in the southern Ukrainian province of Kherson on Sunday. The assault resulted in the tragic loss of seven innocent civilians, including a defenseless infant, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities.
The village of Shyroka Balka bore witness to a heart-wrenching scene, where a young couple, their newborn child merely 23 days old, and another individual fell victim to the relentless shelling. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko disclosed that this grim event unfolded within its streets. Adding to the devastation, the couple’s 12-year-old son, critically wounded, valiantly fought for his life but succumbed to his injuries while under medical care.
Adjacent to Shyroka Balka, the village of Stanislav was not spared from the calamity either. Klymenko reported that this settlement faced a barrage of 12 artillery strikes, resulting in the loss of two lives and inflicting injuries upon one more innocent individual.
Expressing his grief and outrage, Minister Klymenko shared his sentiments through a Telegram post, accompanied by poignant images of the ravaged residences. He unequivocally denounced the continued violence against civilians and labeled the perpetrators as “terrorists” who exhibited no restraint in their bloodshed. Klymenko stressed that forceful intervention is the only way to halt the terrorists’ brutal actions, as they seem impervious to any other form of communication.
Notably, Ukraine’s military successfully reclaimed the western portion of the Kherson region from Russian occupation back in November of the previous year. Despite this victory, the region remains a target of consistent shelling from Russian forces stationed across the Dnipro River. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing turmoil and the urgent need for resolution in the embattled region.
