In a devastating incident near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, a tourist bus veered off a treacherous bend, resulting in a tragic loss of at least 8 lives and numerous injuries. The bus, en route to Tenkasi, was carrying 55 passengers when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The fatal accident unfolded when the bus, negotiating a hairpin curve, careened off the road due to the driver’s inability to maintain control. Promptly, local residents, law enforcement, and firefighting personnel raced to the scene, swiftly assisting the injured.
The impact of the accident caused the bus to overturn, necessitating the use of ropes by rescue teams to descend into the ravine and reach out to the stranded passengers.
Initial reports from the police indicate that the driver’s inability to navigate the sharp curve was the root cause of the bus’s perilous descent down the steep incline. K Prabhakar, Superintendent of Police, stated, “An investigation is currently underway, and it appears that the driver is at fault.”
Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, expressed his condolences and announced a compensation package of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased. Additionally, ₹50,000 will be provided to those who sustained minor injuries in the tragic accident.
